    • MSA Rifle & Pistol Range

3 Gun is an action sport involving rifle, pistol and shotgun, shooting a variety of different types of targets in tactical scenario-based event. We generally shoot four scenarios in a match, which takes about 4 hours. We break up into four squads each under the direction of a range safety officer or squad leader. The squad rotates through the scenarios until all four are completed by each shooter. Scoring is based on time and how well you hit the targets.

This is a great place to improve your shooting skill and improve safety and handling as well. It’s great fun with good folks to shoot with. It is our policy that a person who has never competed in these type events come and be a part as a scorer for one match to get the rules understood before actual shooting. This seems to work better than coming in cold turkey and being overwhelmed with rules and dealing with three different guns.

Matches are 3rd Saturday each month. Walk-through and safety meeting at 8:30, with the match starting at 9:00 (be sure to arrive early enough to sign in before the safety meeting).

IDPA as a sport is simply the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated “real world” self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in IDPA events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense use.

Matches are usually the 2nd Saturday of each month. Setup starts at 7:30 and we can always use more volunteers! Sign-in no later 8:30 for a 9:00 start.

MSA has implemented a rifle and pistol range orientation program and schedule. This orientation class will qualify members for rifle and pistol range use.

The orientation class will show general procedures at the rifle and pistol range, how to best use each range safely, and any range specific rules.

Classes start promptly at 3:00 pm (be sure to show up no later than 2:40) and will take about 2 hours. The class is held at the Rifle and Pistol club house. Sorry, no latecomers allowed - if you are not on time you will have to reschedule for another day.

F Class Rifle is a great event for those desiring to learn how to shoot longer distances. We shoot 530 yards here at MSA. This is for any rifle under .36 caliber (no muzzle brakes). Shooting from a prone position, with separated front and rear rests allowed. You will shoot five 5 shot groups, taking the best two groups score. The target is about 20 inches out side of the 5 ring with the 10 ring about 3 inches. The best possible score will be 100 plus X count.

We usually hold regular matches the 2nd Sunday of each month, and practice sessions on the 4th Thursday of each month - see the MSA event calendar for exact dates and times. For more information contact Jeremy Jackson at (432) 889-8721 or jeremy_jackson10@yahoo.com.

F Minus is your opportunity to see what a rimfire rifle can do at longer distances. We shoot at 100 yards from a prone position, using .22 caliber rifles. You are allowed as many “sighter” shots as you want, and then fire 20 shots for score with a time limit of 20 minutes.

Weather permitting we hold F Minus matches on the 4th Sunday of every month – see the MSA calendar for exact dates and times.
