shotgun RANGE RULES
Shotgun Range Rules
All shooters are required to sign in before they start shooting
Eye and ear protection required.
Only shotguns are allowed to be shot on the range.
A shot larger than 7 1/2 is not allowed.
Guns are to be loaded only after reaching the shooting station.
No more than two shells are to be loaded at a time.
Only targets furnished by MSA and thrown from their trap machines can be shot.
Shooting is permitted only from designated shooting areas.
Guns are to be unloaded and broken open before leaving the shooting station.
Small children are not permitted on shooting fields.
No alcohol can be consumed before or while shooting, and can never be taken by anyone onto shooting fields.
Empty shell boxes, drink cans, empty hulls, and other trash are to be picked up and put in trash cans before leaving the field.
Report any excessive target breakage or trap malfunctions to club personnel so they can be corrected
A) FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY RULES:
TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS IF IT IS LOADED.
Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
Always keep the firearm unloaded until ready to use.
B) CEASE FIRE PROCEDURE ‐ Before going down range:
Coordinate the ceasefire with everyone on that range.
Make all firearms safe.
Activate any available warning device.
C) GENERAL SAFETY RULES:
Know the target and what is beyond.
Know how to use the firearm safely.
Ensure the firearm is safe to operate.
Use only the correct ammunition for the firearm.
Store firearms so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
Be aware that certain types of firearms and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
D) SPECIFIC MSA RULES:
All federal, state, and local laws shall be obeyed.
Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.
Wearing eye and ear protection is required.
Special events, projects, and maintenance will supersede MSA rules and use of the range.
No shooting is allowed before sunrise or after sunset.
The Board reserves the right to exclude unusual firearms and targets that might be unsafe or cause undue damage to club property. No aerial or exploding targets.
Shoot in a controlled manner and only at the targets directly in front of you. Every shot must impact the berm directly in front of the firing position.
Children under 18, all guests, and anyone not having gone through orientation must be under the direct supervision of the orientated member at all times and within arm’s length while on a firing line.
No tracer or incendiary ammunition is allowed.
Do not shoot at or harm any wildlife on MSA property.
Do not litter – put all used targets, waste, and rimfire or non-brass shells in the barrels.
The speed limit is 10 mph through the range.
Gates must remain closed and locked.
Do not climb on or over any berm. Never dig into or remove lead from berms.
Membership cards must be readily available and shall not be loaned, transferred, or used by others.
